Cycle Zydeco 4/27 - 5/1 2011

Cycle Zydeco is the annual Cajun/Creole Food and Cycling Festival featuring the food and music that has made this part of South Louisiana famous. This four-day, 200-mile ride is designed to be ridden at a moderate or leisurely pace in order to absorb the Cajun/Creole culture and food, enjoy the countryside's picture postcard views, and dance to toe-tappin' Cajun and Zydeco music.

In French Louisiana where the joie de vivre, or “love of life” spirit, is unparalleled in the United States, a traditional sports event like a bike tour is cause for celebration. Discover this unique pocket of the world that is steeped in the culture and heritage of French-speaking Cajuns and Creoles.

I've done this ride 6 times now and I really like it. The people are great and its very well supported. I heard a great discription, "its alot of drinkers with a serious cycling problem". Its not all drinkers but if you do partake, there will be plenty of company. I find this a great early season ride as its not that many daily miles and its warm there. One thing to consider before joining, is your food preference. If you are not a fan of cajun food, you may not favor some of the included meals. The entry fee includes 3 breakfasts, 2 full dinners, 3 post ride receptions w/appetizers like boudin & crawfish. I never found myself hungry for those 4 days. At the end of each day's ride there are soft drinks, cold water, energy drinks, and beer.
